GLOBAL STEM CELL TECHNOLOGY (GST) is a privately-owned company that develops blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells for clinical use in horses. GST not only focusses on the preparation of stem cell samples, but also on the scientific research in order to improve currently available therapies. The laboratory director and CEO, Jan H. Spaas, already worked as a stem cell researcher at the Department of Comparative Physiology and Biometrics of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University. Now he follows a new research path at GST: the translation of regenerative medicine into clinical applications. In this regard, he recently published several peer reviewed international papers concerning new in vitro techniques for the treatment of equine pathologies. Also the Quality Manager, Sarah Y. Broeckx, previously worked at the same Faculty, but at the Department of Obstetrics, Reproduction and Herd Health. Now she participates in GST’s scientific research and ensures the production of high quality stem cell samples, according to the art!
GLOBAL STEM CELL TECHNOLOGY (GST) has a laboratory approval number (LA1700607) of the Federal Public Service of Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment. Moreover, the company’s Ethical Committee and FELASA C qualified personnel (European Directive of 1989 concerning the protection of vertebrate animals used for experimental and other scientific purposes) assure an appropriate health care, housing and handling of the donor and experimental animals. Furthermore, donor horses are tested for a wide range of transmissible diseases and stabled in quarantine in order to avoid cross contamination from other conspecifics. In this way, animal welfare regulations are guaranteed and our healthy horses will provide you with healthy stem cells!
